Independent Bikers

Owen, Spencer, Wyatt and I have been going to the local skate park daily to practice bicycle riding on about the only paved surface in town.  Spencer initially started by coasting down some of the shorter stunt ramps.  Owen initially started with some help from mom.  After just a few short days, both boys are both starting on their own, learning how to "stand-up pedal," and are able to ride to and from the skate park.  With this new freedom comes a new time for me to worry.  There's no stopping them when they get going and feel the freedom their bikes provide.  I can't keep up on foot with Wyatt on my back, and I can't yell convincingly enough to get them to stop and wait.  So far they've been visible enough to keep from getting hit and they generally move to the side when cars are coming.  Both are young enough that I can make them wear their helmets, but it's hard to convince Owen why helmets are important in a town where people almost never wear them.
In other news, Kolin has been out of town for over a week.  We've decided that we want to move towards selling our Anchorage house and Kolin is there doing some home repairs and minor renovations in preparation for the market.  I love that house, but we have decided that we're just not going back and it's probably about time we got it off our hands.  Things have been busy single momming it and the boys have grown a little more difficult each day.  Hopefully we can keep it together until Kolin returns and enjoy some real family time.
